Tools with a Mission, an Ipswich-based tool charity, is set to host a volunteer open day.

Tools with a Mission (TWAM), an Ipswich-based charity, is looking for volunteers to help them send nearly 500 tonnes of refurbished tools to African skills training centres. To find out more, they are hosting an open day on Thursday 6th July, at their Ipswich headquarters.

During the open day, visitors will receive guided tours of the centre and can talk to staff and volunteers to find out more about the volunteering experience. Lunch will be provided along with tea and cake. Tours will take place every half an hour, starting at 11am and 2pm.

TWAM is mostly run by volunteers, who can help in a number of ways such as unloading tool deliveries, sorting tools, refurbishing tools and packing kits, or helping in the office. Last year, the charity opened a new refurbishment centre in Rugby, which will double their capacity to send tools. This year, 24 containers filled with nearly 500 tonnes of tools are planned to be sent to African skills centres.

Trevor Maynard, the Ipswich Refurbishment Centre Manager, said: “Volunteering with TWAM is a rewarding experience that offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. Our volunteers are essential to our work and play a critical role in changing lives across Africa. We couldn’t do what we do without them, and we are always excited to welcome new volunteers to our team!”

Tools with a Mission, established in 1984, sends refurbished donated tools to Africa and keeps them out of UK landfills. The tools are packed into trade kits and sent to local organisations that teach vulnerable members of society valuable skills such as carpentry, tailoring, and mechanics.
