Clean Planet Foundation Announces 3-Year Program to Combat Plastic Pollution and Climate Change in Polar Regions
After a successful pilot year featured on BBC, the Clean Planet Peninsula project is set to embark on an ambitious and visionary 3-year journey. The Clean Planet Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to sustainable use of plastics and reduction of carbon emissions, invites 25 individuals to join an immersive training course this August 2024 in the UK. This opportunity is open to anyone with a distinct interest or focus in microplastic or climate science, who can demonstrate how research in the polar regions will benefit global understanding of these critical environmental issues and contribute to worldwide conservation efforts.
The project, in collaboration with UK polar explorer Antony Jinman and the UK Polar Network, aims to provide early-career scientists with practical fieldwork expeditions and research opportunities in the polar regions. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the fight against plastic pollution and the impact of climate change.
The multi-year program consists of a UK field course, Arctic expedition, and a Norway/Finland high skills training trip in 2025 and 2026. The final phase in 2026 will be a voyage expedition to Antarctica, where selected participants will become part of the crew and conduct research on microplastics and climate change.
The Clean Planet Peninsula project is looking for research students and early-career scientists from diverse backgrounds who have a project or are about to embark on research that requires fieldwork experience in remote areas, including polar regions. Applicants must be above 18 years old, residents of the United Kingdom, and willing to participate in all phases of the project from 2024 to 2027. The project is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse learning environment and will keep at least 20% of places available for those from low-income backgrounds.
Interested participants can apply by following the link to the Clean Planet Peninsula project, which will be open from February 20th until May 24th. The project is sponsored by the Clean Planet Foundation and all core project costs are covered. Participants are only responsible for the cost of transportation within the UK and suitable clothing and footwear for outdoor activities.
