“Identify Early Warning Signs: First Derm Offers Online Skin Cancer Screenings”

First Derm and Charles Slbg Foundation Partner to Offer Free Online Skin Consultations for Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Monday 6 May, 2024 – In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, First Derm, in collaboration with the Charles Slbg Foundation, is providing free online skin consultations. This partnership aims to empower individuals in proactive skin health management and raise awareness about the importance of early detection in preventing skin cancer deaths.

Last year’s First Derm online skin cancer screening successfully identified 28 potential malignant melanomas during the months of May and June. This important triage tool has been proven to detect suspicious skin cancers early, ultimately saving lives. The full report can be found on the First Derm website.

Skin cancer is a significant global health issue, responsible for a large number of deaths each year. In the UK, approximately 1 in 41 females and 1 in 35 males will be diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer in their lifetime.1 However, 86% of these cases are preventable, making early detection crucial for effective treatment and improved outcomes. The unique advantage of skin cancer is that it can be easily spotted on the skin, making self-examination an important part of early detection. Experts recommend checking for changes in color or size of moles after showering.

According to statistics, the ten-year survival rate for melanoma is around 87% when caught early. The same goes for other types of skin cancer, such as squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. This highlights the importance of awareness and accessibility in preventing skin cancer deaths.

With First Derm’s online screenings, individuals can have their skin assessed by a dermatologist and receive guidance on the next steps to take for a peace of mind. For more information on skin cancer and the services offered by First Derm, visit their website.
