Millions of Britons have booked holidays based on what they have watched on television.

A recent survey of 2,000 British adults has revealed that more than one in 10 have booked a holiday this summer based on their favourite television programmes, films or sporting events. Popular shows such as Great Railway Journeys, Doc Marten and Travel Man have had a significant influence on holiday destinations for many.

The survey also found that people were most likely to be inspired to visit places they had seen on the screen, with 30 per cent of those questioned saying they had booked a UK holiday based on TV shows.

David Speakman, Managing Director of Holiday Gems, who commissioned the survey said: “It’s great to see that people are being inspired by what they watch on TV and planning trips to visit places they’ve seen.”

He added: “It’s no surprise that the UK remains a popular choice for a holiday this year, with people looking for a staycation to get away from it all.”

The survey also found that the most popular TV programme to inspire a holiday was ITV’s Love Island, with 20 per cent of those questioned saying they had booked a trip away based on the show.

Commenting on the findings, Speakman said: “It’s interesting to see that Love Island is the most popular show when it comes to inspiring holidays. People will likely be heading to the villa in Mallorca, or other popular hotspots featured in the show.”
